I am lucky to have a job that I love and truly enjoy. Over the past 10 years, I have been an Educational Therapist. I’ve had the pleasure to work many amazing students.
I will share stories and experiences about past and current students. I would like to engage, enlighten, and hopefully inspire people.
I have worked with autistic students, those with dyscalculia, dyslexia, ADHD, executive functioning challenges, auditory processing disorders, memory challenges, and sensory disorders. Each student is unique and wonderful to work with. Each week, I will share an experience with a different student.
Stay tuned!

Meet John: an autistic 8th grader who is enrolled at a school specifically for autistic children. He attends a social group, speech therapy, and is on a soccer team.
I’ve worked with him for almost 3 years. The original goal was to work on reading comprehension. However, as we began working together, I realized that he was reading at a first grade level. We read many Frog and Toad books together as well as Henry and Mudge books. We also work on phonics. I use the UFLI curriculum which is wonderful.
John is an eager learner. However he tires easily when reading. He is always happy to come to our sessions. You can hear him coming from the parking lot because he is so excited that he screams my name as he skips to the office. This happens every session. I can’t think of anyone else who is that excited to see me.
Here is a recent conversation:
John: “I did something inappropriate at school today.”
Me: “What did you do?”
John: “I asked my aide to lift up her skirt.”
Though he is still figuring out social norms, I am confident that he will get there with the help of his support network and social group. He has a memory like an elephant. He remembers things I said to him 2 years ago. I know that we are not supposed to have favorites, but he is definitely a favorite!
